Congratulations to the Malvern Hills Mistletoe Mustangs (Caroline Bates, Laura Bennett, Emma Cooper and Emma Cartright), who came 5th out of 72 teams in the popular online Dressage competition run by BRC. There was also an individual 2nd and 10th for Laura, 3rd for Emma Cooper and 9th for Emma Cartright.

MHRC had an amazing day at Allens Hill and pulled off the hattrick of wins. Beth Mussell-Evans, Camilla Esling, Heather Ridley and Sue Peckham won the Senior 70 Team event, followed by Heather Ridley, Sue Peckham, Jodie Powell and Beth Mussell-Evans winning the Senior 80 Team event and then Natalie Smith, Esther Bowness, Rose Chugg-Martin and Sue Moger winning the 90 Team Event. They will be joined at the Championships by Julie Jeffes, who was the outright winner of the 90cm class.

30th to 31st August 2025: British Riding Clubs National Championships
The club had an awesome weekend at the National Championships with 18 riders competing across numerous Dressage and Jumping classes.
A huge congratulations to Esther Bowness and Polly, who were crowned overall 80cm Champions after an intense jump-off, and to Jessica Nevin and Wilf who won their Dressage class and came 4th in the Ride-Off. Julie Jeffes was the Reserve Champion in the Mixed 90 Show Jumping, with the team coming 3rd. For a full report on all the successes at the show, check out the next edition of our newsletter.

MHRC were thrilled to have members competing in every class at the championships. Megan Harper was 4th and Alice Pratley 6th in the 70 class, with Natalie Smith 2nd, Rachel Sargeant 4th and Esther Bowness 8th in the 80, and Nikki Collins 9th in the 100.

We had a fab weekend at Hickstead and for the first time ever had two teams representing the club. It was a tough competition, with a total of 93 teams taking part. Megan Harper, Julie Jeffes and Sue Peckham ended up on a score of 8 faults, for 33rd place. But Beth Museel-Evans, Jo Elliot and Sue Moger ended up on 4 faults and took the 7th place rosette.

We did well at the first Mercian event of the year, with our 'Bluebell' team coming 4th. Emma Cartwright was 2nd in the Intro 4 class, with Mollie Farney coming 6th in the Intro 1.

8th September 2024: Mercian Arena Eventing
Well done to everyone who competed in the Arena Eventing at Gracelands. Our teams came 2nd and 5th in the 50/60cm class and 4th and 5th in the 70/80cm class. We also took the individual top spot in three out of the four classes, with Sue Peckham winning the 50cm, Jess Spanswick the 60cm and Heather Ridley the 70cm.
Well done to everyone who competed in the Arena Eventing at Gracelands. Our teams came 2nd and 5th in the 50/60cm class and 4th and 5th in the 70/80cm class. We also took the individual top spot in three out of the four classes, with Sue Peckham winning the 50cm, Jess Spanswick the 60cm and Heather Ridley the 70cm.

The club had an amazing weekend at Lincoln, with 19 members representing MHRC across the two days. Out of the 10 teams that we sent, we were 8th in the Junior Dressage and Senior Prelim Dressage, 6th in Junior Riding Test, 4th in the Senior Style Jumping, 3rd in the Junior Style Jumping and 2nd in the Junior 80 Show Jumping. But the stars of the weekend were our Senior 80 Show Jumping team of Pip Webster, Beth Mussell-Evans, Lauren Philpotts and Megan Horbury, who were crowned 2024 CHAMPIONS. Also huge congratulations to Sophie Toole, who won the Senior Style Jumping Championship. Julie Jeffes was Reserve Champion in the Senior 90 and Oscar Toole Reserve Champion of the Junior 80. A massive undertaking by the club to run this qualifier - a huge thank you to everyone involved.
We also smashed the ridden side, with MHRC winning the Senior Prelim Dressage, Senior Open Dressage, Junior Dressage, Junior Riding Test, Senior Riding Test and the Pairs classes, with all 6 teams qualifying for the BRC National Championships at Lincoln. MHRC teams were also 2nd and 3rd in the Senior Prelim competition, earning qualification for the SWWRC Championships at Hartpury.

Our Individual Junior riders Katie Spanswick and Flora Gittins won their classes, gaining qualification for the BRC Combined Championships. And Caroline Bates came 2nd in her class.

Rose and Alex then went on to be crowned Ridden Showing Champion and Reserve.
